The afternoon tour departs at 4:00 PM, with check-in at Honokohau Small Boat Harbor, just minutes from Kona International Airport. Plan for a total experience of about 3.5 to 4 hours. The 4:00 PM start is timed so you finish reef snorkeling and diving right as the sun sets (roughly 6:00–7:30 PM) and the manta rays move in to feed.

About nine out of ten of our afternoon tours visit Manta Ray Village, where more than 200 individually identified manta rays gather to feed as plankton rise toward the surface at dusk. No. This is a combined snorkel and 2-tank scuba adventure, so both snorkelers and certified divers ride the same boat. To join the dives you’ll need a PADI Open Water certification (or equivalent); certified divers explore the reef and manta dive down to approximately 40 feet, while snorkelers float at the surface and watch the same action from above.

Kona’s water stays warm year-round, generally between the mid-70s and low 80s °F. Wetsuits are included to keep you comfortable, especially as the air cools after sunset. We recommend bringing a towel and a light jacket or cover-up for the boat ride back to the harbor.
