A Celebration of Life With Kona Ocean Adventures

Hawaiian Lai heart on a rock along the ocean.

We, at Kona Ocean Adventures, would like to share a story. One about a celebration of life in Hawai’i we’ll never forget.

Family and close friends arrived at the marina ready to venture out and commemorate the person they loved. Before they stepped onto our boat, we gave each person a lei of fresh flowers to show them how welcome they were on our vessel—a ring of flowers to reflect the beauty of their loved one’s life.

We set out to the quiet rhythm of the waves and the sweet laughter borne of memories about a person deeply cherished by the people who loved them. The stories they shared with each other, and with us, brought about a feeling of togetherness and ‘ohana, only so clear in moments of true compassion such as this.

As the cortége tossed their leis into the smooth ripples of the ocean, a tradition older than time, we watched the flowers drift and sway with the current out into the open sea, slowly fading into the crystal blue horizon.

We waited and sat with the feelings accumulated throughout the ceremony. After a time, the family decided they were ready to return to shore, so we made our way back, feeling a profound sense of connection with these incredible people.

The boat pulled into the marina, and as they stepped off, we knew we’d become a part of something greater. They told us we had treated them like family. At that moment, we glimpsed a profound new meaning in the word ‘ohana.

This celebration of life is the kind of service we would love to provide our community as long as we can, with as much sincerity and compassion as possible.

In the most difficult of moments, ‘ohana is always there. And so we at Kona Ocean Adventures hope to be as well. Aloha.
